The terms and conditions for booking an event in Isis' meeting space are subject to
change;
the information stated below applies for calendar year 2008.
The lease on this meeting space ends the end of November 2008, and the current Isis Board is reexamining its focus.
News about changes in location, etc. will be provided as it becomes available.
The heart of the Isis Institute's meeting space is Suite 180, a 600 square foot room decorated with artworks by Blossom Burns. The room has an exterior door and windows along the east wall as well as an interior front door opening off the first floor corridor of an office building at 1300 West Koenig Lane, Austin, TX 78756. This open meeting room has an adjoining library room with coffee maker and microwave and also a large storage closet. Meeting room furnishings include 30 stackable chairs and a TV with a DVD/VCR player combo. The office building has a wheelchair accessible entrance, a 22 car parking lot out front, and a drinking fountain and restrooms down the hall.
Besides using the space for meetings and special events, the Isis Institute also makes it available to women who are members of Isis (at present any woman on the Isis email mailing list is considered a member) as well as to organizations that collaborate with the Isis Institute and to members of those organizations.
Events proposed for the Isis meeting space should be compatible with the philosophy and purpose of the Isis Institute of Women's Studies, as presented in About Isis the Goddess and About Isis the Organization. Naturally these events should be lawful.
Isis' meeting space is available for use weekday evenings after 5pm and during weekends. Any date in the year 2008 that has not yet passed and that has not yet been booked is available for booking, and bookings are made on a first come, first served basis.
[Note that as just stated, Isis' meeting space is not available for booking on weekdays before 5pm.]
For events presented at no charge ("free" events) and those presented on a "love offering" basis, the fee for using the space is $10.
For events presented at a set cost, the fee for using the space is
Collaborative organizations of the Isis Institute [e.g., Jung Society of Austin] receive a 50% discount on fees for set cost events.
For all events, the fee is payable on the day of the event.
For the events presented at a set cost, a penalty equal to half the fee amount will be charged if the event is cancelled without at least seven days' prior notice.
Once a booking request has been made and approved by the Isis Institute and posted to the Isis Events Calendar, it should happen.
In all cases, if an event must be cancelled or rescheduled, the responsible individual must notify Isis before the event.
The Isis Board reserves the right to refuse future bookings to those who fail to present booked events or fail to pay or communicate in a timely manner.
The individual making a booking request is expected to make any necessary arrangements for the opening and closing of the space, to be present at the event, and to insure that the space is cleaned up after the event. Again, individuals who fail to follow through may be barred from making further bookings.
For specifics of responsible use, only keyholders or others they authorize can unlock the space. Most keyholders only have one key (to the back, exterior door of the meeting space) and are provided with instructions on how to open and close the space.
The Isis Institute will post booked events on the Isis Events Calendar, link in information on the event furnished by the presenter, and provide access to the meeting space.
However, the individual making the booking request is responsible for everything else involved in planning and carrying out the event, including but not limited to these tasks:
If there's a class you'd like to offer and/or knowledge & passion you'd like to share, please
Alternatively, you can send an email to booking@isisaustin.org with details about the event you wish to book, including its title, description, contact information, date(s) and time, requirements for participation, and cost.
In any case, you'll hear back from the Isis' board, confirming the booking and/or discussing the proposal further.
